The deal, in plain English.

These terms cover your use of guidepost. We kept them short and readable on purpose, the same way we treat everything else. Using guidepost means you agree to what’s below. If you’re agreeing on behalf of a business, you’re saying you have the authority to do that.

The short version

• guidepost never connects to your accounts or your software. It records answers returned by provider APIs with web search enabled. Those answers can differ from consumer apps.
• We cannot control what an AI assistant says about you, and we do not promise to change it.
• Readings are a measurement, not a guarantee: answers move between runs, and reports say so.
• You own your business and your decisions; we own guidepost itself.
• Either of us can end things; ask and we will delete what we hold.

What guidepost is

guidepost is a measurement service. It asks AI assistants, currently OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and Perplexity, the kind of questions a homeowner asks when looking for a trade in a given city. It records what each assistant answered, whether your company was named, which competitors were named, and which web pages the assistant cited. It then reports the sources most worth acting on.

guidepost does not connect to any system you operate. There is no integration, no login to a tool of yours, and no permission to grant. To run a reading we need your company name, website, trade, service area, aliases, and an email address.

What we cannot promise. Nobody controls the output of these AI models, and we do not claim to. We do not guarantee that your company will be named, or ranked in any position, or that acting on a recommendation will change an answer. Answers also vary between runs of the same question, which is why every reading reports the spread rather than a single figure. Treat a reading as evidence for your own judgment, not as financial, legal or professional advice.

Accounts and access

You need an account to use the product, and you’re responsible for what happens under it: keep your login credentials safe and let us know promptly if you think someone else has them. Product login is handled by Auth0. Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Email is sent through Resend. You must give accurate information, be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and use guidepost for a legitimate business. If you add other people from your team, you’re responsible for their use too.

Your data and the sources we read

We hold what you send us to run a reading: your company name, website, trade, aliases, cities you serve, an email address, and the readings so a report can show change over time. We do not connect to, read from, or write to any system you operate.

The rest comes from cited web sources. guidepost puts questions to AI providers through their developer APIs and records what comes back, along with the pages each provider cited. API results can differ from answers in each provider’s consumer application. guidepost does not use your business information to train models. Provider processing is governed by each provider’s terms and privacy commitments. The Privacy Policy covers the details.

The assistants and search services we measure are operated by other companies under their own terms. Their answers are theirs, not ours. guidepost reports what those services said at the time they were asked, and is not responsible for the accuracy of the underlying claims in an assistant’s answer or in a page it cited.

Acceptable use

Don’t use guidepost to:

• Request readings for a business you have no connection to, in order to harass or mislead it.
• Break the law, infringe someone’s rights, or misrepresent a reading as a guarantee of placement.
• Probe, attack, or try to break the security of the service, or access another business’s data.
• Copy, resell, scrape, or reverse-engineer the product, or use it to build a competing service.
• Overload the service or interfere with how it works for others.

Intellectual property

You own your business data; we own guidepost: the software, the analysis, the way it phrases things, the brand, and everything we build. Using the product doesn’t transfer any of that to you. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use guidepost for your own business while these terms are in effect. The readings and reports we produce are yours to use inside your business; the system that produces them stays ours.

Disclaimers and limits

guidepost is provided “as is.” We work hard to make it accurate and reliable, but we can’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, especially since it reports the output of AI models we do not control and which change without notice. Nothing guidepost outputs is a guarantee of any business result, and it isn’t a substitute for professional financial, tax, or legal advice. Decisions about your business are yours.

To the fullest extent the law allows, guidepost isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost profits or lost data, arising from your use of the service. Where liability can’t be excluded, it’s limited to the amount you paid us for guidepost in the twelve months before the claim. Some places don’t allow certain limits, so parts of this may not apply to you.

Termination

You can stop using guidepost and close your account at any time. We can suspend or end access if you break these terms or use the service in a way that creates risk for us or others. We’ll give you notice where it’s reasonable to. When things end, your right to use the product stops; you can export or ask us to delete your data, and it ages out of backups on a short schedule (see the Privacy Policy).

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and if you’re a customer, we’ll tell you directly. Continuing to use guidepost after a change means you accept the updated terms.
